Course Content

Module 1: Classification of Life, Darwin’s theory of evolution
Module 2: Microbiology: Classification of Cell, Anatomy of Cell, Physiology of cell organelles, Viruses, Bacterial, Alge, Yeast and Fungi. Metabolic pathways. Cell replication, Kinetics of cell growth.
Module 3: Biochemistry: Introduction to biomolecules (carbohydrates, fats, proteins and nucleic acids), classification and structure of different biomolecules. Enzymes and kinetic study of enzymes.
Module 4: Genetics: Mendel’s theory of genetics. Central Dogma of Molecular Biology, DNA and RNA replication, Transcription and Translation, Splicing, Gene regulation, Metabolic regulation.
Module 5: Botany: Structure of plants, physiology of plants, functions of plant tissues.
Module 6: Human Biology: Anatomy of the human body, vascular system, nervous system, skeletal system, urinary system, reproductive system, muscular system, digestive system.
Module 7: Immunology: Cell biology of infection, introduction to immune system, infectious disease and vaccines, cancer biology.
Module 8: Immunology: Cell biology of infection, introduction to immune system, infectious disease and vaccines, cancer biology.
Module 9: Engineering Applications of Biology:

Biomimetic: self-cleaning materials, self-healing materials, drag resistant materials, windmill design, communication networks i.e. ant and honey-bee model, artificial neural network, enzyme-biomimetic catalyst, bullet train design, circular economy and so on Biomedical: Drug delivery, biocompatible material, tissue engineering, genetic engineering, bio-diagnostic devices i.e. blood sugar monitor, pregnancy kit, ventilator systems, dialysis systems, and so on
